Ed Steinberg has three decades of business and economic writing
experience. He served for ten years as the director of the
Communications Development Staff of the Federal Reserve Bank of New
York, supervising the writing and editing of the Bank's educational and
public relations materials. The educational materials that Ed wrote at
the Fed – on topics such as monetary policy, the Federal budget, and
saving – are used in high schools and colleges across the country.
Before joining the Fed, Ed spent 11 years at AT&T, working in the
areas of economic analysis and telecommunications regulation. In the
1980s, he wrote speeches and position papers designed to further AT&T's
case for reduced government regulation of its long-distance business.
Earlier in his career, Ed conducted economic research at the Social
Security Administration and the Commerce Department's Bureau of
Economic Analysis (the agency that produces the nation's GDP data).
Ed has taught graduate courses in economics at NYU's Stern School of
Business since 1993 and at NYU's Graduate School of Arts and
Science since 1988. He has also held full-time teaching positions in
economics at Quinnipiac and Shippensburg Universities. Ed has published
articles on economic topics in professional journals and in newspapers
such as the (Bergen) Record, Providence Journal, and Boston Herald. Ed
has a B.A. in political science from Rutgers University and an M.A. and
a Ph.D. in economics from New York University.
